Tikun Tov

The word tikun is the Hebrew word generally used to translate repair.

Tov is the Hebrew word meaning good.

The two of them together would roughly mean "A good repair".

Tikun is also related to the word Takin, meaning regular or normal in the sense that your physical examination was takin, showing no problems or concerns.

The goal of Tikun Tov is to promote fun and stimulating learning of Hebrew reading and comprehension so that children's text skills should be takin.  The underlying concept is:

If you want them to read Hebrew, give them Hebrew to read.

It started when I used to walk with my pre-school aged daughter to school and noticed how interested she was in reading the street signs.  She also found cereal boxes much more fascinating, of course, than practicing her ABCs book.

Why should learning Hebrew be any different?

Couldn't America have Hebrew street signs and Hebrew cereal boxes?

I started by labeling everything   Eveything gets a label: Walls, doors, handles, windows and more!!! so the students could read Hebrew everywhere!

Then I made my own Twister game so my Hebrew students could get straight their...

  from their .

When I moved back to Israel I discovered how...

to change    The original game of banking and business.   into  The original game of banking and business - in Hebrew!  ...

and      into     !

The possible ideas for easily making students' home and school environments fun and easy for learning Hebrew are virtually endless!

They can learn a lot of lessons from the games themselves...

(like geography from Travel the world in Hebrew while trying to catch your flight back to Israel. Learn names of the countries and cities plus a lot of travel vocabulary.)

Most important, the more comfortable they become playing games in Hebrew and reading even seemingly silly stories like The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr Seuss, the more comfortable they become reading !

Simple projects can be added in the classroom and school that take only minutes or less but that over the years can have enormous impact.
